Building and Maintenance Assistant

We are hiring a Building and Maintenance Assistant

The Building and Maintenance Assistant is responsible for maintaining and repairing the company’s building and facilities, ensuring a safe and functional work environment for all employees. This role involves conducting regular inspections, identifying and resolving maintenance issues, and performing preventive maintenance tasks.

• Regular inspections of the company’s building and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, filters and other consumables.
• Carry out minor repairs including plumbing, electrical and carpentry work.
• Coordinate with external contractors for major repairs and renovations on approved projects.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for all facilities and equipment.
• Perform scheduled maintenance tasks.
• Keep accurate records of maintenance activities and asset conditions.
• Recommend and implement improvements to the preventive maintenance program and schedule.
• Maintain an inventory of maintenance supplies, tools and equipment.
• Monitor stock levels and place orders for necessary items.
• Ensure proper storage and organization of maintenance supplies and tools.
• Ensure the maintenance storeroom is kept in pristine condition.
• Provide regular updates to the procurement manager on the status of maintenance projects and the required preventive maintenance.
• Collaborate with other departments to coordinate maintenance tasks and minimize disruptions.

• Proficiency in using various maintenance tools and equipment
• Knowledge of building systems including plumbing and electrical
• Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance or a related field
• Matric Certificate or equivalent; trade school certification preferred
