Heavy Equipment Operator

• Operate heavy equipment to bale and load waste or other materials into trailers.
• Perform daily inspections and routine maintenance on equipment.
• Grease/lubricate equipment and check/add fluids daily.
• Safely steer, guide, and operate equipment using controls such as steering wheels, levers, pedals, and buttons.
• Substitute for other operators as needed to maintain workflow.
• Clean debris from equipment tracks and gear mechanisms at least once daily or as required.
• Communicate with co-workers and supervisors using a two-way radio regarding daily tasks and priorities.
• Maintain cleanliness and appearance of facility grounds.
• Follow all company policies, safety procedures, and applicable federal, state/provincial, and local regulations.
• Attend safety meetings and branch meetings.
• Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED preferred, but not required.
• Forklift certification required.
• Ability to obtain Transfer Station/Landfill Operations Certification if needed.
• Proficient English reading, speaking, writing, and comprehension.
• Basic math skills and ability to read and understand equipment gauges.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Strong attention to safety and detail.
• Ability to follow instructions and solve routine operational problems.
• Physically capable of frequently lifting, pushing, pulling up to 25 lbs and occasionally up to 50 lbs.

• Ability to stand, sit, walk, climb, balance, kneel, crouch, crawl, and use hands and fingers.
• Visual abilities including close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
• Ability to work in physically demanding environments.

• Outdoor work environment 100% of the time.
• Exposure to loud noise, weather conditions, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, chemicals, and airborne particles.
• Work performed in heavy equipment cabs but exposed to weather (except during lightning storms).
• Occasional work at heights or in precarious locations.
