Position: Senior Database Administrator – PostgreSQL & MySQL (Code & Performance Optimization Focus)
We are looking for a highly skilled Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in Postgre

SQL and MySQL and a strong ability to review, analyse, and optimize application code and database interactions. This role goes beyond database operations—you will work closely with engineering teams to improve SQL quality, data models, and application performance at scale.

The ideal candidate understands how application code impacts database behaviour, can diagnose performance issues from code to execution plan, and proactively drives optimization, scalability, and reliability.

Experience:

5–10 years (strong hands-on expertise required)

Query Review (Core Focus)

- Analyse and optimize SQL queries embedded in application code, ORM-generated queries, and stored procedures.
- Identify inefficient joins, subqueries, N+1 query issues, locking/contention problems, and data access anti-patterns.
- Partner with developers to refactor code and improve database interaction design.

Performance Tuning & Optimization

- Perform deep analysis using EXPLAIN / EXPLAIN ANALYZE, query plans, and execution statistics.
- Design and optimize indexes, schemas, and partitioning strategies.
- Tune database parameters for workload-specific performance.
- Lead performance benchmarking and load-testing efforts.

Data Modeling & Architecture

- Review and improve logical and physical data models.
- Guide schema design decisions for scalability and long-term maintainability.
- Support data migrations, refactoring, and versioned schema changes.

Backup, Recovery & High Availability

- Design and manage robust backup, restore, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Implement and maintain replication, clustering, and failover solutions.
- Validate RPO/RTO through periodic recovery testing.

Security & Governance

- Implement database security best practices (role-based access, least privilege, encryption).
- Ensure data integrity, auditability, and compliance with internal standards.

Collaboration & Mentorship

- Act as a trusted advisor to engineering and product teams on database best practices.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to developers and junior DBAs.
- Participate in design reviews, performance reviews, and production incident analysis.

Skills & Qualifications

1. Mandatory Technical Skills

- Expert-level experience with Postgre

SQL and MySQL in production environments.
- Deep understanding of SQL performance tuning and execution plans.
- Added advantage - Proven ability to read, review, and optimize application code interacting with databases.
- Strong experience with indexing strategies, partitioning, and schema optimization.

2. Strongly Preferred

- Experience with high-volume, transactional, or SaaS applications.
- Hands-on exposure to cloud databases (AWS RDS/Aurora).
- Familiarity with monitoring tools (cloud watch).

3. Soft Skills

Education

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent hands-on experience).
