Role Overview :

The New Indian Express is seeking an experienced and data-driven SEO Analyst to join our digital team in Chennai. This role is critical to enhancing the visibility of our editorial content across search engines, improving organic traffic, and increasing reader engagement across platforms. The ideal candidate should have a solid background in SEO for news/media websites and be proficient in optimizing content.

Key Responsibilities:

SEO Strategy & Execution

Plan and execute comprehensive SEO strategies to boost search visibility for news content .
Conduct regular keyword research to identify high-impact search terms in trending news and evergreen topics.
Optimise headlines, meta tags, URLs, and content structure to maximise search ranking and CTR.

Content & On-Page Optimisation

Work with editorial teams to ensure SEO best practices are implemented across all digital content.
Guide content creation with keyword maps and topic clusters tailored to search trends.
Improve internal linking, readability, and engagement metrics.

Technical SEO

Perform SEO audits and implement technical improvements (site speed, crawlability, schema markup, mobile responsiveness).
Monitor and fix issues through tools like Google Search Console, Screaming Frog, etc.

Analytics & Reporting

Track and analyse site performance using Google Analytics, GA4, Search Console, and third-party tools (SEMrush, Ahrefs).
Create SEO performance dashboards and regular reports for management and editorial teams.

Collaboration & Coordination

Liaise with editorial heads, content writers, developers, and social media teams to align SEO efforts with editorial goals.
Train editorial staff on SEO practices and content planning based on search demand.

Qualifications &

Skills Required:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Digital Marketing, or a related field.
4-8 years of experience in SEO, preferably with a digital publisher, media house, or content-heavy website.
Proficiency to optimise content for search engines is essential.
Deep understanding of search engine algorithms, ranking factors, and SEO tools.
Strong grasp of on-page, off-page, and technical SEO.
Familiarity with content management systems like Word Press or Drupal.
Excellent communication, coordination, and analytical skills.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment.

Preferred:

Prior experience in a newsroom or editorial SEO environment.
Knowledge of Google News optimisation and Top Stories carousel strategies.
Awareness of local and regional search trends in Tamil Nadu .
