An opportunity has arisen to recruit a Practice Nurse working with our existing team of 5 Nurses and 4 Health Care Assistants.

Newbold Surgery is a 5 Partner, Systm One training and award winning Practice with a practice population of

We are a close-knit team and provide free parking on-site, monthly Team meetings and currently no weekend or Bank holiday working.

The ideal candidate will have experience in Treatment Room duties and/or a willingness to undertake training with enthusiasm to work within a forward thinking Multidisciplinary Team. Experience is not essential but must be willing to undertake the Practice Nursing qualification if required.

Remuneration is dependent on experience and qualifications.

Please note that the Practice uses Agenda for Change pay scales as a guide and does not adopt Agenda for Change terms and conditions. The Salary Scale will be Newbold Surgery Band 5 £ 32,576-£39,322 pro rata.

Main duties of the job

Practice independently, working within own competence and Professional Code of Conduct as regulated by the NMC 2015.

The post-holder will ensure clinical effectiveness by keeping up to date with current Practice agreed Protocols and Guidelines.

The post holder is responsible for the delivery of basic practice nursing services/care to the practice population. Supported by senior nurses within the practice, they will deliver care within the boundaries of their role, focusing on supporting patients to be healthy, monitoring of long-term conditions, health prevention and screening activities.

They will work collaboratively with the General Practice Team to meet the needs of patients, supporting the delivery of policy and procedures, and providing nurse leadership as required.

Participate in activities to further develop the role for the benefit of patients.

Provide Mentoring, supervision and training for less experienced health care professionals.

Job responsibilities
  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by Senior Nursing staff and GPs such as BP checks, urinalysis, venepuncture
  • Requesting basic pathology tests e.g. urine culture, swabs and bloods as per agreed Clinical Protocols and referral to Senior Practice Nurses or GPs as appropriate
  • B12 replacement therapy and other ongoing injectable therapy, monitoring as appropriate.
  • Maintaining Stock within Nursing and Treatment Rooms with appropriate storage and stock rotation
  • Cervical Cytology, Vaginal Swabs and Family Planning
  • Support and advise women requesting information relating to family planning needs
  • Support and manage health needs of women presenting for cervical cytology consultations
  • Men's Health including Prostate Monitoring and Management
  • Assess and care for patients presenting with uncomplicated wounds. In line with Local Guidelines and working alongside the Integrated Nursing Team with more complex Wound Management issues
  • Ear Care:
    Advise patients re Ear self-care and management of wax
  • Provide Routine ear care as appropriate and in line with Practice Guidelines and procedures
  • Referral to and Signposting to Ear Care Specialist Services
  • Working with the PHCT in managing the delivery of National and Local Enhanced Services including Learning Disabilities and Mental Health Reviews
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement and evaluate programmes to promote health and well-being, and prevent adverse effects on health and well-being
