Role OverviewThe incumbent in this class assists management to achieve an efficient operation in the Finance Department through reliable performance of accounting functions and staff supervision as assigned, observing and complying with municipal policies, and statutory requirements ensuring the safety and security of confidential material/matters pertaining to the Department’s operation.
Key Responsibilities- Review accounts payable entries, ensuring accurate and timely processing of vendor invoices, payments, and other financial records.
- Support the accounting function of the finance department in maintaining financial compliance and provide support to internal departments, management, and vendors.
- Prepare reconciliations such as the City’s bank accounts, GST/PST returns, and various financial reports as required.
- Prepare working papers and other reconciliations related to audit requirements; liaise with external auditors as necessary during the annual audit.
- Act as an ERP software super user as it pertains to Accounts Payable.
- Supervise staff as assigned, planning and assigning work and reviewing the same to ensure accuracy.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Work the standard work week Monday to Friday; occasional overtime as authorized.
- Conduct accounting clerk "housekeeping" duties.
- Grade 12 education supplemented by post‑secondary courses in bookkeeping or accounting.
- Good knowledge of the functions, practices and procedures, bylaws, policies and regulations pertaining to the operation of the Finance Department.
- Good knowledge of modern office practices and municipal accounting procedures and operations.
- Ability to operate a variety of standard office equipment, accounting machines and computer terminals.
- Able to be polite, tactful and courteous in dealing with the public and be neat in appearance.
- Able to perform mathematical and arithmetic computations with speed and accuracy.
- Able to perform tasks with minimal supervision.
- Able to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with department officials and other members of the staff.
- Able to plan, direct and supervise work of subordinates.
USD $40.44 per hour (2025 rate).
