Position: Emergency Weather Community Support Worker (Term Contract)

Community Support Worker – Emergency Weather Response (Casual, On-Call, Seasonal)
Ruth & Naomi’s Community Outreach Centre

Ruth & Naomi’s (RAN) is a Christian faith-based organization dedicated to transforming the lives of people experiencing homelessness, poverty, and addiction through the love of God. We walk alongside individuals with hope, grace, and trust, fostering a safe and supportive community where everyone matters.

We are currently seeking Casual Community Support Workers to join our team on evening and overnight shifts for our Emergency Weather Response (EWR) shelter, operating from October 15 to April 30. This role provides additional beds for people experiencing homelessness during extreme cold nights, ensuring a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for all participants.

What you’ll do:
  • Create a welcoming, positive, faith-based environment that reflects our values of Grace, Hope, and People.
  • Support nightly shelter operations, including setup, turnover, and cleaning of shared spaces.
  • Perform regular safety and security checks to ensure a clean, safe space for participants.
  • Build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries, and connect participants with community resources.
  • Respond calmly and effectively to challenging situations and emergencies.
  • Complete thorough documentation, incident reports, and communicate with team members as required.
Who you are:
  • Certificate or diploma in Human/Community Services, or equivalent related experience.
  • Experience working with vulnerable populations in emotionally demanding environments.
  • Training or willingness to complete:
    First Aid/CPR, Naloxone, WHMIS, and Non-Violent Crisis Intervention.
  • Strong communication, conflict resolution, and crisis response skills.
  • Respectful of RAN’s Christian worldview and committed to upholding the organization’s mission and values.
  • Able to work flexible evening and overnight shifts on short notice (staff notified ~12 hours in advance).
