Position: Trimmer Operator / Grader

Established wood products manufacturing operation is looking for a qualified Trimmer Operator / Grader
. We remanufacture cedar lumber and other species on a specialty basis for our markets across North America.

Responsibilities
  • Load and unload lumber/wood from trucks, forklifts, and conveyors
  • Inspect inbound wood to identify defects and indicate areas for removal
  • Operate automated trim saw to properly size lumber to achieve even ends and sizes
  • Use knowledge of grade requirements to assist with pre/post-inspections and grading of lumber
  • Collect, prepare and package wood products for outbound shipping
  • Follow safety requirements and always maintain a clean and tidy work area
  • Inspect the machinery and product for quality assurance, perform daily maintenance on the machinery
  • Learning and performing multiple operator functions within the sawmill to expected performance levels
  • Learning to apply work processes and understand how they lead to increased productivity and reduced waste of useable product
Qualifications
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a high production wood products manufacturer or sawmill operation
  • A current grading ticket is preferred for this position
  • Experience grading lumber and operating a trim line, trim saw, optimizing saw or similar machinery
  • Knowledge of lumber manufacturing and handling/packaging procedures preferred
  • Motivated self-starter with ability to work in a demanding fast-paced environment
  • Commitment to always maintaining a safe work environment
  • Physically fit, able to handle lumber and material in a safe and efficient manner
  • Good communication skills, ability to understand instructions and key product specifications
  • Understand the importance of teamwork, quality and timeliness of work
  • You need to be organized, reliable, detail oriented, and flexible to keep up with changing requirements.

This is a stable, full-time job offering a competitive hourly pay rate and a good benefits program. The hours of work are Monday to Friday, day shift only with a 7AM start time. We strive to maintain a productive, supportive and positive work atmosphere.
