Overview

In House Engineering Laboratory and Refrigeration Technical Service Engineer

Resonant Clinical Solutions offers a full range of clinical trial services from discovery to delivery. Our IHE (In-House Engineering) Team advances clinical research by ensuring accuracy and reliability of essential trial equipment through calibration, service, and repair of laboratory and refrigeration products and services used in clinical trials. This role is based at site 007 – UK – Chorley, working within the IHE workshop and reports to the Global Service Manager (GSM).

The post holder will provide a comprehensive clinical trial value-added equipment service including commissioning, maintenance, calibration, repair and management services, with hands-on work supporting a wide range of clinical specialties and assisting with lifecycle management of our products. You will help maintain the highest standards of quality and compliance to support patient safety and trial success.

Responsibilities and duties
  • Technical Support:
    Provide technical support for laboratory and refrigeration equipment (e.g., fridges, freezers, centrifuges, scales, balances, incubators, temperature monitoring systems).
  • Service & Repair:
    Perform routine and corrective maintenance on laboratory and refrigeration equipment; diagnose faults and conduct repairs to minimise downtime.
  • Calibration:
    Conduct accurate calibration of temperature-controlled and other lab devices per SOPs and regulatory standards (e.g., GxP, ISO 17025). Document activities to ensure compliance with internal and regulatory requirements.
  • Quality & Compliance:
    Maintain detailed service records and calibration certificates; ensure all work meets applicable GCP and manufacturer specifications; participate in audits and inspections as needed.
  • Inventory & Workflow:
    Support business delivery OTIF (KPIs); manage tools, parts, and calibration standards; assist with scheduling and prioritisation of in-house engineering requests.
  • Collaboration:

    Work with quality assurance, warehouse, logistics, and customer service teams to ensure smooth workflows and exceptional client support; provide technical input for equipment upgrades and purchasing decisions.
  • IHe Operations:
    Lead daily IHE stand-up meetings; inform management of repairs status, inspections, unusual situations and customer concerns; coordinate with subcontractors on-site in Chorley, UK; maintain ERP data accuracy (inventory, service history, results, transactions).
  • Refrigeration & Laboratory:
    Perform routine maintenance and calibration, repair and troubleshoot devices, conduct safety tests, document activities, collaborate with manufacturers, assess upgrades or replacements, maintain spare parts inventory, and stay updated on regulatory standards and best practices.
Qualifications

Required:

  • Proven experience in laboratory or refrigeration equipment installation, fault finding, maintenance, calibration and repair.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration principles and low-temperature systems (-80°C / cascade).
  • Excellent technical skills in diagnosing and repairing lab and cold-chain devices.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical or lab environments (e.g., GCP, GMP, ISO standards).
  • Excellent documentation and record-keeping skills; proficient with calibration tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) training.

Preferred:

  • Calibration / testing qualification (IQ, OQ & PQ).
  • Certification in refrigeration or HVAC (e.g., F-Gas, EPA 608).
  • Experience in a clinical research or GxP-regulated environment.
  • Familiarity with calibration software and digital documentation tools.
Knowledge, skills and abilities

Essential:

  • Continued professional development (training courses).
  • Experience with ISO 9001 QMS and knowledge of relevant national/global standards.
  • Understanding of risks to patients and staff from laboratory/medical products; electrical/electronic experience.
  • Knowledge of operation and maintenance of medical/laboratory products; ability to organize own workload; able to work with minimal supervision on low/medium/high-risk equipment.
