Job Description & How to Apply Below

Providing housing and recovery support with a goal of achieving independent living.

Emerging Futures works nationally with people affected by addiction, encouraging them to make positive changes to their lives.

We believe that no one should suffer the stigma associated with addiction, and that everyone seeking support should feel valued and respected.

We provide homes for people to connect with others and make the necessary changes to move towards independent, healthy living.

Our behaviour change services provide a confidential space to share experiences, and offer practical support to those who want to change.

The Emerging Futures accredited coach training develops the skills of our volunteers, motivating people to give back and reconnect with their community.

About the role

As a Housing Support Worker, you’ll help women with diverse needs, ranging from those in early recovery to those preparing for independent living.

You’ll provide housing and recovery support to women with histories of failed accommodation placements, substance misuse, criminality, and challenging behaviours, helping them move towards independence and recovery.

This role involves supporting vulnerable female residents who have experienced male‑perpetrated abuse and trauma. The therapeutic programme is delivered within a female‑only housing facility, requiring regular on‑site access, including lone working. To maintain a safe, therapeutic environment, and due to the nature of the work, it is a requirement that all applicants must be of the same sex as the residents.

In a Psychologically Informed Environment, you’ll help coordinate cases, assess needs, create support plans, and deliver structured interventions to promote wellbeing, active citizenship, and alternatives to substance use.

You will collaborate with staff and external partners to create recovery support systems and plans that help individuals move from addiction to wellbeing and community involvement.

The role requires flexibility, including working evenings and weekends.

This is an entry‑level role, and we understand that not all candidates will have direct work experience in a similar position. We provide training to all of our Housing Support Workers, enabling them to deliver the role confidently and in a holistic, person‑centred way. Whilst a passion for working with people affected by addiction is crucial, candidates may also have experience of working with people with complex needs including challenging or negative behaviour, substance misuse and/or criminal offending backgrounds and supporting them to make changes to their lives.

You may also have:

  • Experience or an understanding of supporting people to develop their personal strengths and sustain their tenancy within a ‘supported housing’ environment.
  • Experience of developing partnerships and working collaboratively with other organisations.
  • A coaching/ counselling/ Health and Social Care qualification.
  • An understanding of the harmful effects associated with drug and alcohol misuse and offending in relation to health, social welfare, housing, employability and personal relationships.
