We are looking for an Experienced Technical Chemist to join the team na, part of Marlowe Environmental Services, is a leading effluent chemical manufacturer, distributor and engineering business. Our focus is on environmental sustainability, innovation and customer satisfaction, providing comprehensive solutions in effluent chemistry and associated engineering.
The role requires travel to client sites for on‑site testing and supporting new business opportunities. A vehicle will be supplied.
Background in external client work and hands‑on chemical application preferred.
The role will involve collaboration with chemical operations, engineering, sales and the laboratory chemist at the Coalville site. Part of your time will be based at this laboratory supporting product testing and application, quality control and R&D initiatives.
Key Responsibilities- Chemical application
- Understand current chemical applications at client effluent treatment plants including on site trials and analysis working with chemical operations, sales and engineering teams
- Conduct laboratory testing of samples
- Complete detailed technical reports and application reviewing current effectiveness and alternative chemical applications
- Understand the broad range of effluent treatment plant equipment and the effective use and application of chemicals
- Complete chemical performance reviews with clients
- Manage technical requests on chemical product data, assessments and tenders
- Ensure adherence to all Safety protocols, Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), and company policies.
- Research & Development (R&D) support:
Collaborate with R&D / Sales and Engineering teams to apply analytical methods to introduce new products and applications. - Design and execute experiments to support product applications, raw material evaluation, and process improvement.
- Analyse data and application to provide insights and recommendations for R&D projects.
- Research potential new chemicals to bring into the market with current or new suppliers.
- Product Testing & Analysis:
Support chemical testing on raw materials and finished products according to established specifications and standard operating procedures (SOPs). - Support Investigation of out‑of‑specification (OOS) results, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
- Quality Management:
Support the laboratory quality systems, including documentation, record‑keeping, and sample management. - Participate in internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with relevant regulatory standards (e.g. ISO, internal and external audits).
- Bachelor's / Master's degree in Chemistry or equivalent subject or similar experience in a laboratory environment – ideally with field‑based experience.
- Flexibility to travel including overnight stays as required.
- Ability to work on your own initiative.
- Demonstrate expertise in a wide range of analytical chemistry techniques and instrumentation.
- Strong understanding of Quality Control principles.
- Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
- Ideally have worked with external clients to develop and present solutions.
- Ideally experience in effluent chemistry and application to effluent plants although experience in a related field will be considered.
- Salary up to £29,000.
- Monday‑Friday, 37.5 hours per week.
- 23 days holiday per year plus bank holidays; after 2 complete years’ continuous service with the Company you will be entitled to one extra day of holiday for every complete year of service thereafter, to a maximum of 25 days.
