OverviewThe UK BAT Senior Advisor supports the drafting of BAT conclusions, liaises with Technical Working Groups and presents a final document suitable for publication as a new, nationwide environmental standard. The position requires a deep understanding of environmental legislation, technical project management and the ability to coordinate multidisciplinary work.
Responsibilities- Support the drafting of BAT conclusions and present final documents to the Ministry of Defence and the Standards Council.
- Liaise with Technical Working Groups and other stakeholders to incorporate technical input into BAT documents.
- Ensure documents meet UK environmental legislation and policy requirements.
- Coordinate the work of technical authors and manage project timelines.
- Review technical documents for accuracy and detail utilisation.
- Ensure timely completion of deliverables and maintain high quality standards.
- Manage travel, overnight stays and other project related requirements as needed.
- Good understanding of process engineering and environmental issues.
- Strong eye for detail when reviewing technical documents.
- Comprehensive knowledge of UK environmental legislation and policy.
- Critical review of arguments and data.
- Experience coordinating technical writing teams.
- Excellent project management skills and a drive to complete.
- Minimum 5 years working experience and a solid understanding of environmental regulation across industrial sectors.
- Expertise in UK and EU industrial environmental legislation, including IED and Environmental Permitting Regulations.
- Experience coordinating and reviewing publication of technical documents.
- Understanding of BAT conclusions implications for permits, industry and the environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Planning, prioritising and organising tasks and resources to deliver results on time.
- Ability to respond flexibly to challenges and build consensus.
- Technical analysis of complex industrial data.
- Working effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and fostering inclusive practices.
