Community Midwife – Derwentside Community Team
The maternity team at CDDFT is searching for a committed, dynamic and enthusiastic midwife to join our Derwentside community midwifery team based in Shotley Bridge.
We want you to be here, helping to shape our vision for an outstanding service that gives women, families, our community and our midwives an extraordinary experience. You will join a warm and supportive team of community midwives who truly care about the whole maternity experience.
We welcome applications from band 5 midwives who are currently due to complete their preceptorship to band 6.
You will work collaboratively with women & birthing people, families and the multi‑disciplinary team, supporting personalised choice and promoting exemplary care in line with national transformation ambitions and our trust values.
Our team provides care to women and families across a varied urban and rural setting, working closely with the maternity units at the University Hospital North Durham and at Darlington Memorial.
Key Responsibilities- Provide maternity care within the community midwifery team at Shotley Bridge Hospital.
- Plan, implement and evaluate individualised care plans that prioritise communication, informed consent and relationship building.
- Facilitate antenatal and postnatal continuity of care, acting as an autonomous practitioner who can plan a diary around caseload.
- Support the redeployment of preceptorship, internationalised and student midwives.
- Encourage life‑long learning and professional development, including CPD funded opportunities such as NIPE and NLS training.
- Registered midwife with current UK registration and NMC PIN.
- Good IT, organisational and time‑management skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Commitment to reflective practice and professional development.
- Motivational and empowerment skills, with confidence to work independently.
- Ability to travel across the Trust as required.
- Experience in a community midwifery setting preferred.
- Desirable:
Evidence of ongoing professional development, teaching/assessing qualification, PMA qualification, NIPE practitioner.
