Retread Technician

THE EMPLOYER IS: EKS TYRES (NI) LIMITEDTo carry out day to day tasks in the production of retreaded truck tyres. Perform repetitive work to inspect, buff, repair, build and heat tyres through the use of specialised machinery and rubber components.

• Inspect worn tyres for faults, cracks, cuts and nail holes, and to determine if the tyres are suitable for retreading.
• Operate a buffing machine to remove treads from tyres to be retreaded, following specifications for depth and width removal.
• Skive tyres to remove all injuries or scorched materials from the tyre's surface to prevent injuries from growing.
• Carry out any necessary repairs to include bead repairs, reinforcements and patches.
• Measure diameter and cross section to determine correct tread width.
• Build semi-raw rubber treads onto buffed tyre casings in order to prepare tyres for vulcanisation in retreading processes.
• Place tyre in chamber and program correct curing temperature according to specification.
• Inspect tyres to determine defects in curing (soft cures, ply separation, repairs missed, etc.).
• Paint finished retread.
• Repair tyres found defective during the process.

• Ability to work as part of a team.
• Ability to follow procedures and instructions correctly.
• Previous experience working with trucks.
