Position Summary

The Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to residents at Glen Stor Dun Lodge (GSDL). This role involves assessing residents' health needs, providing direct nursing care, administering medications, and supporting residents' overall well-being. The RPN collaborates with interdisciplinary healthcare teams, residents, and families to ensure a safe, compassionate, and resident-centered approach to care while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards and best practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct nursing care to residents, including monitoring health status, administering medications, and performing treatments as per physician orders.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating individualized care plans in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Observe and report changes in residents' conditions, ensuring timely intervention and care adjustments.
  • Promote resident safety, dignity, and independence while following infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Educate residents and families on health conditions, medication management, and wellness strategies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, and resident responses in electronic medical records (EMRs).
  • Respond to emergencies and provide immediate nursing interventions as required.
  • Ensure compliance with Long-Term Care regulations, standards, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing professional development to enhance nursing practice.

  • Position Requirements

    Education &

    Certifications:

  • Diploma in Practical Nursing from an accredited college.
  • Valid registration in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) as a Registered Practical Nurse.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as an RPN, preferably in long-term care, geriatrics, or a healthcare setting.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Clinical Expertise:
    Strong knowledge of geriatric care, chronic disease management, and palliative care.
  • Communication:
    Excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage effectively with residents, families, and healthcare teams.
  • Critical Thinking:
    Ability to assess residents’ conditions, recognize changes, and respond with appropriate interventions.
  • Collaboration:

    Proven ability to work within a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure holistic resident care.
  • Time Management:
    Strong ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple residents' care needs efficiently.
  • Technical Proficiency:
    Experience using electronic medical records (EMRs) and healthcare documentation systems.
  • Compassion:
    Ability to provide empathetic, person-centered care while fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
  • Regulatory Compliance:
    Knowledge of Ontario's LTC regulations, Ministry of Long-Term Care (MLTC) standards, and best practices in nursing care.
  • Emotional Resilience:
    Ability to remain patient, empathetic, and composed in emotionally demanding situations.
  • Working Conditions

  • Work is performed within the Glen Stor Dun Lodge, involving direct contact with residents.
  • This position requires shift work, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
