HTRC Cast Process Engineer role at MTC – Manufacturing Technology Centre
Role OverviewAs a Manufacturing Engineer based at the High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) in Ansty, you will conduct research and improvement activities related to the design and manufacture of turbine components. The HTRC is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls‑Royce, equipped with state‑of‑the‑art equipment for investment casting, machining and advanced metrology of single crystal components. This role focuses on Casting Furnace Process Engineering for use in Single Crystal Investment Casting.
Responsibilities- Work within co‑located design and manufacturing engineering teams, collaborating with researchers from relevant academic fields.
- Support both process engineering and project delivery tasks, ensuring safe and reliable equipment and processes.
- Act as a central point for knowledge management and communication across the HTRC, and externally with suppliers, customers and partners.
- Understand customer requirements and translate them into manufacturing methods, managing associated technical packages.
- Ensure validation, substantiation and quality compliance of components, managing non‑conformance as required.
- Develop proof of concept solutions.
- Impact partner profitability.

- Develop expertise in single crystal casting and machining technology for turbine components.
Degree qualified or demonstrate equivalent technical capability based on practical knowledge and experience.
- Sound understanding of manufacturing engineering and component engineering principles.
- Understanding of casting techniques, ideally with experience working directly with casting furnaces.
- Strong functional skills in problem solving, programme management, change control, risk management and budgetary control.
- Experience in research environments, design for manufacture optimisation, experiment management, technical package creation, inspection capability development, non‑conformance resolution, continuous improvement, equipment capability development, process stability, coaching of technicians, benchmarking external capability and project support.
