Responsibilities
  • Lead battery safety related project work with a key WMG partner company and ensure a professional and successful relationship.
  • Design and develop test programmes to demonstrate battery safety under abuse conditions such as overheating, overcharge, short circuit or mechanical damage.
  • Support the Centre’s major upgrade to facilities and capability starting summer 2026 by ensuring future test needs of the partner company are met.
  • Communicate frequently with colleagues, partner employees and manage project work to tight deadlines.
  • Prepare detailed Risk Assessments for complex and hazardous experiments.
Qualifications
  • Significant experience in industry product development or test environment, and enjoy both hands‑on testing and supervision of junior colleagues.
  • Formal engineering education or training within an industrial environment.
  • Previous experience working with automotive OEMs or similar is an advantage; experience in a battery test lab and deep understanding of abuse testing and thermal runaway is required.
  • Knowledge of data acquisition, data analysis and the preparation of written reports and presentations.
  • Excellent project planning and reporting skills, with the ability to initiate, plan, organise, implement and deliver programmes of work to tight deadlines.
  • Evidence of willingness and previous success in training such as health and safety, fire marshal and first aid qualifications.
  • Experience in creating robust and complete risk assessments of complex and hazardous experiments.
