Coventry and Warwickshire Pathology Services provides phlebotomy services at six main sites:
University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust in Coventry and Rugby, City of Coventry Health Centre in Coventry, George Eliot Hospital in Nuneaton and South Warwick Foundation Trust in Warwick. Services include out‑patient and in‑patient care, community clinics, GP clinics and domiciliary services covering Coventry, Warwickshire, Leicestershire and Birmingham.
Perform phlebotomy and support other team members while delivering optimum patient care. Deputise for the Phlebotomy Supervisor when absent and carry out duties deemed reasonable by the Phlebotomy Manager.
We seek keen and enthusiastic individuals who can bring forward‑thinking ideas to our busy department. The role requires a full clean UK driving licence and a car for transporting items between sites, although a primary ‘base’ site will be identified. Successful applicants must provide an immunisation and vaccination report from either their current UK occupational health provider or their UK GP.
Job responsibilities- Collect blood samples from inpatients, outpatients, clinics, GP surgeries and patient homes of all ages, as specified by the supervisor.
- Undertake competency assessments of the venepuncture procedure for all new staff.
- Act as a point of reference for health and safety, attending and supporting regular health and safety meetings when the Phlebotomy Supervisor is absent.
- Monitor and record staff leave and absence.
- Ensure mandatory training is completed.
- Perform all duties undertaken by phlebotomy supervisors in their absence.
- Support phlebotomy supervisors in their role.
- Assist in compiling staff rotas.
- Responsibly dispose of contaminated materials, including sharps.
- Welcome and advise patients and staff as required (reception duties).
- Track and record samples to ensure audit information is available.
- Record key performance indicators for the phlebotomy department.
- Manage consumable stocks and ensure availability.
- Support less experienced staff in orientation to the department and role.
- Participate in appraisals and personal reviews to achieve objectives.
- Provide and participate in a comprehensive phlebotomy service seven days a week, all days of the year.
- Assist with delivering high‑quality service for staff and patients.
- Promote and monitor adherence to health and safety and Trust policy.
- Carry out any duties prescribed by the Network Phlebotomy Manager.
