About usDerwent Water Marina is a RYA and Paddle UK training centre. We are situated near Keswick in Cumbria on the shore of Derwent Water. We run a range of courses from taster sessions to accredited courses for children, young people and adults.

Job OverviewAs a Watersports Instructor at Derwent Water Marina, you will work as part of a team to deliver all water sports activities including National Governing Body (NGB) courses to customers. Responsibilities may include maintaining and carrying out repairs on watercraft, providing safety boat cover when required, launching and recovering craft. The position offers opportunities for professional development and upskilling in relevant qualifications.
All instructors will be expected to be proficient in RYA disciplines and desirable in Paddle UK disciplines. This is a very people-focused role in a business that values excellent service, quick thinking, and positive energy.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in watersports instruction
- RYA Dinghy Instructor
- First Aid
- Strong organisational and communication skills
- A proactive, hands‑on approach and ability to lead by example
- Good knowledge and understanding of water sports safety protocols, procedures
- Enjoy working as part of a team
- RYA Senior Instructor
- RYA Windsurf/Wing/Powerboat/First Aid Instructor
- Safety boat certificate
- Delivering RYA courses and taster sessions, and if qualified, Paddle UK Kayak, Canoe, and Stand‑Up Paddle boarding (SUP) courses and taster sessions.
- The role requires an individual who can work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential, as is the physical fitness required to perform the core responsibilities in accordance with NGB standards.
- Assist with the regular maintenance and inventory of all water sports equipment, ensuring that it is in good working condition and meets safety standards. Ensure that the water sports facility is clean, organised, and well‑maintained.
- Provide exceptional customer service to all participants, ensuring their needs are met and their expectations are exceeded. Address any customer concerns or issues promptly and professionally.
- Assist in the development and implementation of marketing strategies to promote the water sports program and attract new customers.
