Project Accountant

Description

We are looking for a Project Accountant to support financial operations for a growing oil & gas consulting firm in Dallas, Texas. This role focuses on maintaining accurate project records, coordinating billing and payroll-related activities, and helping ensure timely reporting across multiple accounting functions. The ideal candidate brings strong attention to detail, solid Excel skills, and hands-on experience with project-based accounting.

Responsibilities:

- Generate client invoices and review supporting documentation to ensure charges are accurate and complete.

- Examine employee time records and confirm pay and billing data align with approved rates and project requirements.

- Monitor outstanding customer balances, record financial activity, and help maintain accurate accounts receivable information.

- Prepare and submit required tax and benefit-related reports, including sales tax filings and retirement contribution documentation.

- Process payroll information for hourly staff and ensure submissions are completed on schedule.

- Review subcontractor billings against project records and resolve discrepancies before payment processing.

- Reconcile expense transactions and confirm costs are posted correctly within the appropriate project accounts.

- Maintain organized accounting documentation and support consistent recordkeeping across project files.

Requirements

- Experience in project accounting, preferably within real estate, property, or construction-related environments.

- Working knowledge of billing, accounts receivable, and invoice entry processes.

- Ability to review timesheets, validate rate accuracy, and support payroll-related administration.

- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for tracking, reconciliation, and financial reporting tasks.

- Familiarity with subcontractor invoice review and project cost reconciliation.

- Understanding of sales tax reporting and routine contribution or compliance-related filings.

- Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines and maintain accurate records
