Job Summary
For entry into the Specialty Doctor grade, applicants must have at least 4 years of full‑time post‑graduate training (or its equivalent gained part‑time) with at least 2 years in the relevant specialty training programme. Candidates must be able to work unsupervised when required and will be paid on the Specialty Doctor pay scale in accordance with the 2021 terms and conditions.
Key Responsibilities- Provide high‑quality clinical care on the ‘shop floor’, working closely with nursing, managerial and medical colleagues.
- Supervise junior clinical staff and provide teaching and workplace‑based assessments.
- Take part in consultant ward rounds and ensure all relevant information (including GP electronic discharge letters) is completed.
- Manage case notes, prescribe and review drugs, carry out investigations and act on results promptly.
- Participate in research, teaching, audit and governance programmes within the department.
- Engage in personal development and appraisal processes to achieve GMC revalidation.
- Work towards and comply with national care targets.
- Contribute to a consistent and high‑standard handover process during shift changes.
The successful applicant will join the Adult Medicine Team at Darent Valley Hospital and may rotate through specialties such as Acute Medical Unit, Renal Medicine, Respiratory, Ageing and Health, Acute Medicine, Gastroenterology, Stroke, Diabetes & Endocrinology. The role includes participation in the 1 in 10 intensity on‑call rota for the Medical Registrar.
Qualifications and Progression- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification.
- MRCP(UK) full certification (or equivalent) by time of appointment.
- Full GMC registration at time of appointment.
- Evidence of achievement of Foundation, CT/ST1 and CT/ST2 competences with DOPS, Mini‑CEX and other assessments as required by the Core Medical training curriculum.
- At least 24 months of experience in medicine or an equivalent programme (excluding Foundation) prior to commencing ST3 training.
