Overview
The Urology department is a well-established team providing excellent urology services to a wide catchment area. It houses the tertiary Stone Centre, the award-winning Poplar Unit with a state-of-the-art seminar room, and a dedicated Redwood Ward. The department comprises seven full‑time consultants, a visiting consultant, 11 middle‑grade doctors (including specialist registrars, research/clinical fellows, core trainees, a SHO and foundation doctors), and specialist nurses, cancer and stone coordinators.
There is close engagement with Kent and Canterbury Christ Church Universities to support translational research.
Specialty Doctors must be fully registered with the GMC, hold a registerable medical qualification with MRCS, and have at least 3 years of full‑time regular hospital service (or equivalent) as ST1/2 or above in Urology. The post focuses on General Urology service, research and audit, and is ideal for candidates awaiting further training or preparing for CESR. It offers opportunities to present and publish clinical research.
Responsibilities- Assist junior doctors in ward duties, attend outpatient clinics and theatres, and cover the urology call rota (1 in
8). - Support the day‑to‑day running of the urology ward, assist in theatre sessions and flex cystoscopy lists, and arrange admissions and discharges under consultant supervision.
- Perform morning ward rounds covering both elective and emergency cases.
- Participate in research, audit and evidence‑based practice.
- Provide training and supervision to junior doctors and foundation staff.
- Collaborate closely with the Nephrology team to deliver integrated care for patients with urological and nephrological disorders.
- Registerable medical qualification, MRCS.
- Full GMC registration.
- Previous experience in Urology or Surgery.
- Experience working in Urology.
- Understanding of audit principles and evidence of previous audit work.
- Experience in a Urology unit or centre.
- Leadership, budgetary and interpersonal skills.
- Team player and effective communicator.
- Professional attitude, appearance and good attendance record.

- Previous teaching experience and teaching qualification.
