Job Summary
Are you a healthcare assistant with phlebotomy experience? An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full‑time, permanent, Band 3 position working across the surgical wards of Darent Valley Hospital. We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated individual who enjoys patient contact and working in a busy and multi‑professional team environment, to support us in the delivery of a high‑quality phlebotomy service.
Excellent team working and interpersonal skills will be required as well as IT skills that meet the demands of the service. You will work closely with the multi‑disciplinary teams to provide a high standard of care and customer focus to improve the patient experience.
This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job- Take blood samples from hospital patients with indirect supervision, according to protocols and procedures.
- Provide and maintain a stable and safe clinical environment, ensuring that samples reach the Laboratory in optimum condition and in a timely manner.
- Assist with the training and supervision of staff, providing phlebotomy related information for patients, and liaising with laboratory colleagues and other services as appropriate.

Works independently within the surgical wards whilst undertaking phlebotomy tasks, ensuring there is a team approach with members of the healthcare team on the wards.
- Maintains patient safety at all times, ensuring that patient identification is verified and that samples are taken and handled according to Trust and Local Policies.
- Ensures safe storage, use and administration of all medicines and substances according to Trust Policy.
- Ensures that safeguarding procedures are followed for vulnerable adults.
- Acts as the patients’ advocate at all times.
