Note:
This section describes typical responsibilities for an intermediate level role and may be performed under the guidance of a more senior process engineer.
- Conduct process simulations using appropriate software to optimize system performance and efficiency, including modeling and predicting process behaviors using mathematical models and computer simulations.
- Determine appropriate sizes for equipment based on process requirements and prepare data sheets detailing specifications and requirements of each piece of equipment.
- Perform calculations to determine the optimal size for process lines, considering factors such as flow rate, pressure drop, and temperature.
- Prepare data sheets for instruments used in the process, including instrument specifications, operating conditions, and maintenance requirements.
- Develop Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs) to represent the flow of materials through the process, identifying major equipment, process conditions, and flow rates.
- Markup Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs) to reflect changes in the process or equipment, including adding, removing, or modifying symbols and labels as necessary.
- Conduct studies to understand and improve the process by analyzing data, identifying bottlenecks, and proposing solutions to improve efficiency and productivity.
- Participate in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies to identify and evaluate potential hazards and propose mitigation measures.
- Review vendor drawings to ensure they meet process requirements, including checking dimensions, materials, and design details.
- Assist with task-oriented work, potentially leading smaller projects or providing alliance support on specific clients; on larger projects, support the Area Lead to complete tasks above.
- Bachelors Degree or equivalent in Chemical Engineering
- Required minimum 5 years or more experience in the oil and gas industry working as a process engineer — ideally with gas processing plant experience
- P.Eng licensed with APEGA
- Ability to work in a team environment in an intermediate role to develop your skills
- Strong communication and report writing skills
- Organized with a focus on quality, schedule and budget
