Placement Student – AI, Digital & Zero Fuel Burn Testing Engine Sub‑System (Cummins Europe)
Join us at Cummins Europe as a placement engineer focused on AI, Digital, and Zero Fuel Burn Testing for the Engine Sub‑System Team.
OverviewOur culture believes in POWERING YOUR POTENTIAL
. We provide global opportunities to develop your career, make your community a better place and work with today’s most innovative thinkers to solve the world’s toughest problems.
We believe in flexibility for you to explore your passions while making an impact through meaningful work within our inclusive workforce.
We are looking for a motivated placement engineer to learn how a major global organization operates and gain the tools and exposure needed to launch a career in the industry.
This year‑long industrial placement offers hands‑on engineering experience at the intersection of advanced digital technologies and sustainable internal combustion engine system development. You will contribute to projects that enhance engineering efficiency through AI/Digital tools and accelerate mechanical validation of components using innovative rig testing methods that replicate engine running conditions without burning fuel in a test cell.
Throughout the placement, you will work across different subsystems of the engine and interact with a wide range of global and local cross‑functional groups and departments to coordinate project delivery.
This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year and will commence Summer of 2026.
Responsibilities- Support AI & Digital Engineering Tool Development:
Assist in designing, testing, and deploying digital and AI‑oriented tools to optimise engine subsystem component design, investigation and testing, and project/resource management. - Contribute to Zero Fuel Burn Testing Component Validation:
Participate in the design, setup, execution, and monitoring of advanced component rig validation tests aimed at reducing the time required in an engine test cell & fuel burn. - Data Evaluation & Reporting:
Collect, process, and investigate experimental and simulation data, preparing clear technical reports and visualisations to support engineering decision‑making.
- Studying towards an Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related STEM degree (preferably Mechanical, Aerospace, Motorsport or a suitably related engineering discipline), typically halfway through the program.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in technical teams and communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with ability to interpret technical data.
- Interest in internal combustion engines and their operation.
- Familiarity with using AI and digital tools to help complete engineering related tasks.
- Prior exposure to engine testing, propulsion systems, or sustainable energy technologies through coursework, projects, or internships.
