HANA Functional Process Data Expert to support a global greenfield S/4
HANA implementation across all value streams, including RTR, PTD, PLM, STP, and OTC. This role is critical in ensuring business data is fit-for-purpose, standardized, governed, and deployment-ready to enable successful process design, system build, data migration, and user adoption.
The Functional Process Data Expert will act as a key liaison between business process owners, SAP functional teams, and the data enablement organization, ensuring data requirements are fully embedded into solution design and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Data Enablement & Solution Design
- Partner with global and regional business stakeholders to define data requirements aligned with standardized value stream processes.
- Translate business process designs into clear master and transactional data definitions for SAP S/4
HANA.
- Support global template design by ensuring consistent data models, attributes, and hierarchies across geographies.
- Validate data readiness to support end-to-end process execution (Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, Return).
Functional Process Data Ownership
- Define data objects, attributes, and mandatory fields.
- Support business rules, validations, and derivations.
- Align data structures with SAP best practices and industry standards.
- Take ownership of functional data decisions related to master and transactional data.
Data Migration & Readiness
- Support data cleansing, enrichment, and harmonization activities.
- Define, document, and validate data mapping rules from legacy systems to S/4
HANA.
- Participate in mock conversions, data loads, reconciliations, and defect resolution.
- Ensure data quality thresholds are met prior to cutover.
- Perform hands-on mapping and testing of data conversions.
Data Governance & Standards
- Support the establishment and enforcement of global data standards and policies.
- Collaborate closely with Master Data Management (MDM) and Data Governance teams.
- Help define data ownership, stewardship, and accountability models for value stream data.
- Contribute to data quality monitoring, issue resolution, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Experience with SAP MDG is preferred and candidates should understand how to configure and use it.
Testing, Cutover & Hypercare
- Support functional, integration, and UAT testing with a strong focus on data accuracy and completeness.
- Validate business scenarios using migrated and newly created data.
- Take ownership of data-related cutover activities, including validation and reconciliation.
- Provide post-go-live (hypercare) support and stabilization.
Required Qualifications
Experience
- 5+ years of SAP functional experience with a strong focus on data.
- Hands-on experience with SAP S/4
HANA (greenfield implementation preferred).
- Proven experience supporting large-scale, global ERP transformation programs.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end value stream business processes and related data objects.
- Demonstrated experience in data migration, cleansing, validation, and cutover activities.
Technical & Functional Skills
- Strong knowledge of SAP master data objects (Material, Vendor/Business Partner, Customer, BOMs, Routings, Pricing, Cost Centers, Profit Centers, and related groupings).
- Experience setting up cost centers, cost center groups, profit centers, and profit center groups.
- Understanding of S/4
HANA data model changes compared to ECC.
- Experience with SAP MDG or similar data governance tools is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with SAP data migration tools (SAP Migration Cockpit, LVM, ETL tools).
- Ability to read and interpret functional specifications, data models, and mapping documents.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in manufacturing, building materials, or asset-intensive industries.
- Previous experience as a Functional Data Lead or Data Domain Lead.
- Experience defining global templates and harmonized data models.
- Familiarity with data quality tools, KPIs, and metrics.
