Senior Mechanical Engineer; Maintenance

Position: Senior Mechanical Engineer (Maintenance) (Contract)

Carrington West are working with Derby City Council to find a Senior Mechanical Engineer (Reactive Maintenance) on an initial 6-month contract.
This role is firmly focused on reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis, supporting council-owned buildings across Derby, including schools. You'll act as the technical lead when systems fail, identifying causes, specifying remedial works and ensuring safe, compliant outcomes.

The role

· Diagnose mechanical and heating system failures across council buildings

· Attend site, investigate faults and produce clear defect and condition reports

· Raise and manage work orders via the maintenance portal

· Provide mechanical and heating design input where required

· Supervise contractors and inspect works for quality and compliance

· Advise schools and stakeholders on maintenance priorities

· Ensure compliance with health & safety and energy efficiency standards
You'll be site-based in Derby around 3 days per week.

About you

· Strong background in mechanical & heating maintenance

· Proven experience in reactive maintenance and fault diagnosis

· Previous "on the tools" experience highly desirable

· Gas certification and recognised mechanical qualification (e.g. NVQ Level 7, BTEC HNC/HND or similar)

· Confident producing technical reports and making engineering decisions
