Hours:
37 hours, £13.26 p/hr, Fixed Term until End of March 2026, 7am - 3pm daily.
As a Mobile Caretaker, you will carry out routine safety checks, minor repairs, and general caretaking duties to maintain the smooth and safe operation of several buildings. You will respond to on-site issues, support health and safety requirements, and help ensure facilities remain in good working order. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys problem-solving, takes pride in maintaining safe environments, and is comfortable working independently across varied sites.
Key Responsibilities- Carry out minor repairs, such as fixing door handles, replacing light tubes, unblocking waste pipes, and adjusting basic fittings.
- Report major faults or defects to the appropriate contact for further action.
- Support the safe operation of heating and building systems, reporting any issues when needed.
- Complete routine safety tasks, including:
- Testing fire alarms and emergency lighting
- Checking emergency exits and fire equipment
- Conducting basic water hygiene tests
- Identify and report defects such as boundary issues, storm damage, or hazards around buildings.
- Test panic alarms and check security/automatic doors for correct operation.
- Carry out snow and ice clearance during adverse weather to maintain safe access routes.
- Keep external areas tidy, including litter picking, sweeping paths, and cleaning gullies.
- Support internal cleaning where required, including carpet cleaning and occasional emergency clean-ups.
- Safely collect and dispose of sharps using appropriate protective equipment.
- Escort contractors on-site and ensure proper permit procedures are followed.
- Act as an emergency key holder and attend out-of-hours incidents when needed.
- Take monthly gas, water, and electricity meter readings.
- Carry out additional tasks associated with facilities support as required.
- Is confident with basic repairs and maintenance
- Has a practical, problem-solving approach
- Is reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
- Understands basic health and safety requirements
- Is comfortable working both indoors and outdoors
- Communicates professionally with staff, visitors, and contractors
- Is willing to respond to occasional out-of-hours call-outs
Experience in caretaking, maintenance, or facilities work is beneficial but not essential.
