Mechanical Engineering Technician – Join the Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service!

Are you ready to use your mechanical expertise in a fast‑pace environment? The Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join their dedicated team in Crescent Link (Derry/Londonderry).

This is a full‑time position (Monday–Friday, 36.25 hours per week) offering an attractive hourly rate of £19.72
. The role begins as a 6‑month contract with strong potential for extension based on performance.

As a key member of the Fleet Mechanical & Engineering team
, you will help ensure the operational readiness of specialist vehicles and equipment across three regional workshops.

• Conduct inspections, diagnostics, planned maintenance, emergency repairs, bodywork, coach‑building, and modifications on a wide range of emergency vehicles and operational equipment.
• Apply your skills across multiple mechanical disciplines, demonstrating adaptability and technical expertise.

Support 24/7 operational resilience by participating in the Regional Standby Rota
, providing essential out‑of‑hours assistance including emergency repairs, equipment servicing, and vehicle recovery during live incidents.

• Possess a certified level 3 trade qualification in Vehicle Repair and Maintenance.
• Two year’s post apprenticeship experience working within a trade role.
• Can demonstrate experience in plant mechanics and light vehicle repair.
• Possess a current full UK Driving Licence
