Retail Associate/ Customer Service, Customer Service Rep
THE EMPLOYER IS: THE CHURCHES TRUSTThe role will contribute to the smooth running of The Churches Trust charity shop, helping to support volunteers, serve customers and develop the charity’s growing online retail presence.
To assist with volunteer engagement, retail operations and online sales under supervisor and senior staff guidance.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in community-based retail, teamwork and digital marketing, while learning how to work effectively as part of a supervised and supportive team.
- Assist in welcoming, supporting, and engaging volunteers involved in shop and online retail activities.
- Help with volunteer scheduling, communication and basic induction under supervision.
- Maintain volunteer attendance and training records.
- Promote teamwork, inclusion and a positive volunteer experience.
- Provide excellent customer service in the charity shop: greeting customers, handling sales and assisting with displays.
- Sort, price and prepare donated goods for sale following guidance from senior staff.
- Maintain a clean, safe and welcoming shop environment.
- Photograph and list items for sale on online platforms (Vinted, Facebook Marketplace, etc.) under supervision.
- Monitor online messages and respond to customer enquiries appropriately.
- Ability to work as part of a team and support volunteers in their roles.
- Basic numeracy skills and ability to handle cash accurately.
- Basic IT skills, including use of email and internet for online sales.
- Experience using social media or online platforms (e.g. Facebook Marketplace, Vinted, eBay).
- Part of the role will require the candidates to sort donations and lift bags of clothing or other items, this may involve heavy lifting
- Previous experience in retail, customer service or charity shop work (paid or voluntary).
- Experience or knowledge of displays and visual merchandising.
- Basic understanding of health and safety or customer care principles.
- Experience working or volunteering as part of a team.
