About the RoleWe are seeking a talented Senior Network Engineer to join our Digital Infrastructure team. If you have a passion for high‑end networks and want to make a significant impact in a diverse department at the heart of UK science, this is the role for you.
You will support and maintain STFC's IT Network, focusing on firewall, routing, Wi‑Fi, and security systems. As a Senior Network Engineer, you will leverage expertise in LAN and WAN, IP address management, firewalls, and security access control systems to deliver innovative solutions and ensure network stability and security.
Leadership and guidance in supporting and maintaining critical services within our network portfolio will be expected. The position may require travel to other STFC sites, partner, and supplier offices.
This opportunity allows you to work on cutting‑edge projects and contribute to ground‑breaking scientific advancements.
Key Responsibilities- Support STFC WAN, site LAN, routing, Wi‑Fi, firewall, network security, IPAM, network access control, and cloud telephony.
- Collaborate with other teams to meet evolving IT systems and service needs.
- Participate in projects and oversee new service transitions.
- Enterprise firewall management.
- Network Access Control systems.
- Wi‑Fi management systems.
- Routers and routing management.
- Knowledge and experience running multi‑site network environments.
- Experience managing and configuring Layer 2 and Layer 3 network switches with DNS and DHCP services.
- Experience with Extreme Cloud IQ Wi‑Fi management system or equivalent and strong knowledge of Network Access Control system (preferably Clearpass).
- IPAM experience using Infoblox solutions or equivalent.
- Experience in fibre and cable management.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
The position requires a National Security Vetting clearance. Eligibility requirements and detail: Normally you need UK residency of at least 3 years (CTC), 5 years (SC), 10 years (DV). DV posts are for UK Nationals only.
