A Quantity Surveyor with a contracting background is responsible for managing project costs, preparing estimates, handling contract documents, and ensuring projects are completed within budget and according to contract requirements. The role involves close coordination with project managers, site engineers, subcontractors, and clients.
Key Responsibilities- Prepare detailed cost estimates and BOQs for tender submissions.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and project scope.
- Obtain, review, and compare supplier and subcontractor quotations.
- Support tender team with value engineering and cost optimization proposals.
Skills & Qualifications
- Education:
Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field. - Experience:
7–10+ years QS experience in contracting companies (buildings, civil, infrastructure). - Strong understanding of commercial and contractual practices.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, MS Excel, and QS software (CostX, Planswift, etc.).
- Knowledge of standard forms of contract (FIDIC preferred).
- Strong analytical and negotiation skills.
- Practical understanding of site operations and construction sequences.
- Ability to estimate accurately based on real-world cost data.
- Strong negotiation with subcontractors and suppliers.
- Efficient cost monitoring and fast decision-making.
