Aspetar Clinical Specialist Fellowship (Sports Imaging)

Sports Imaging is a vibrant and exciting subspecialty in musculoskeletal radiology which involves diagnosis and treatment of sports-related injuries in amateur and professional athletes. The Sports Radiologist works closely with orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians and physiotherapists to make the appropriate diagnosis, assess the extent and help to determine the prognosis of a sports‑related injury, which is crucial in guiding management.

Applicants will get familiar with the role of each imaging modality in the diagnosis and prognosis of a sports injury, with biomechanics, pathophysiology, and treatment options for the patients. Applicants will gain experience in performing image‑guided injections in athletes.

Role Description

Aspetar’s Sports Imaging Department is a state‑of‑the‑art facility providing a unique opportunity for a Clinical Specialist Fellow in Sports Imaging to gain further clinical experience. During this one‑year programme the fellow will develop a comprehensive range of sports imaging skills, only possible through being exposed to a variety of athletes from different sporting codes, disciplines, ages, levels of participation, gender and ethnicity.

  • Diagnose and assess sports‑related injuries by performing musculoskeletal imaging.
  • Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, and physiotherapists to determine prognosis and guide management.
  • Perform image‑guided injections in athletes.
  • Interpret and integrate imaging findings across modalities.
  • Engage in educational and research opportunities.
  • Receive ongoing clinical mentorship and contribute to leadership development in Sports Imaging.
Education and Experience

Applicants must be registered specialists who completed a radiology residency training or are board‑certified radiology specialists, and eligible to be licensed to practice radiology in Qatar.
