About the job Pediatric Endocrinology consultant 1. Position Summary
The Consultant Pediatric Endocrinologist provides specialized diagnostic, therapeutic, and consultative care for children and adolescents with endocrine and metabolic disorders. The role requires a Tier-1, Western-trained specialist able to manage complex, multisystem endocrine cases, lead multidisciplinary teams, contribute to service development, and ensure compliance with Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DOH) regulatory standards.
2. Minimum Qualifications & Licensing RequirementsOne of the following (or equivalent), fully completed and maintained:
UK CCT or CESR (Pediatric Endocrinology/Diabetes)
American Board Certification (Pediatrics + Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship)
Canadian Royal College (RCPSC) Fellowship
Irish CSCST
Australian FRACP (Pediatric Endocrinology)
Any other qualification recognized as Tier-1 by DOH Abu Dhabi
ExperienceMinimum 3–5 years post-consultant experience in a tertiary pediatric endocrinology unit.
Previous experience in academic medical centers or children’s hospitals is strongly preferred.
LicensingEligible for DOH Abu Dhabi Consultant License

Pass DOH Exam or obtain exam exemption based on Tier-1 eligibility.
3. Key Responsibilities A. Clinical CareDiagnose and manage the full spectrum of pediatric endocrine disorders:
Thyroid and adrenal disorders
Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes in children
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH)
Pituitary and hypothalamic disorders
Calcium/phosphate metabolism disorders
Obesity-related metabolic dysfunction
Provide inpatient and outpatient endocrinology services.
B. Procedural & Technical SkillsGrowth assessment, bone age interpretation, and endocrine dynamic testing
Insulin therapy management, CGM interpretation, and insulin pump therapy
Thyroid ultrasound interpretation (if trained)
Management of diabetic emergencies (DKA protocols)
C. Multidisciplinary LeadershipLead MDT meetings with pediatrics, genetics, radiology, dietetics, diabetes educators, and child psychology.
Participate in development of clinical guidelines and care pathways.
Support complex metabolic and genetic case evaluations.
D. Compliance, Governance & QualityEnsure adherence to SEHA, JCI, and DOH standards.
Participate in quality improvement, morbidity and mortality meetings, and audit programs.
Contribute to safe medication management and patient education initiatives.
E. Teaching & MentorshipProvide clinical teaching for pediatric residents and fellows.
Participate in CME and departmental education programs.
