Material Engineer
Purpose of the Position:
As a Material Engineer you will support the Equipment and Materials Manager in the Engineering Fixed Facilities Department, responding to project and asset requirements for the construction, installation, and operation of pipelines and offshore structures.
- Follow material manufacturing and inspection activities through all its phases, from preliminary engineering to procurement follow-up.
- Support bids and project definition of the most effective and competitive solutions for materials manufacturing.
- Issue all documents related to the definition and production of components (pipes, fittings, etc.) for construction of pipe lines and sea lines.
- Support procurement and commercial office with technical analysis during project bid phase; review Saipem Specifications for pipe and fittings manufacturing.
- Support procurement department in establishing bidder lists, evaluating and pre‑qualifying vendors, bid assessments, and audits.
- Review supplier documentation for compliance with client and international specifications and rules.
- Issue technical bid evaluations for line pipes and fittings supply.
- Assist MPQT, review and comment subcontractor documentation, review inspection and test plans.
- Interface with method project engineers and technical management during proposal preparation to identify specific project requirements.
- Liaise with welding, NDT and anticorrosion colleagues to identify critical product manufacturing requirements and promote innovative solutions.
- Perform inspection site surveys and report validation results to the technical group leader.
- Coordinate material failure analysis and maintain contact with line pipe manufacturers to stay updated on new technologies for material selection, quality and cost optimization.
- Drive corrosion selection and protection strategies, including materials selection, corrosion rate calculations, chemical inhibition philosophy, and corrosion engineering documentation.
- Provide technical support to construction/installation teams for corrosion‑related issues.
- Define laboratory experimental work and coordinate all corrosion‑related tests on materials and analysis at qualified laboratories.
- Perform and coordinate materials and corrosion failure analysis upon project/asset requests.
- Participate in research projects in corrosion and materials performance.
- Master’s degree in Materials or related Engineering; alternatively a bachelor’s with substantial experience.
- Minimum 5 years of EPC experience with a senior level in material and equipment skills.
- Proficiency in English.
- Strong knowledge of EPC processes, procurement, project management tools and methodologies.
- Experience in pipelines, sea lines and offshore facilities.
- Excellent communication, problem‑solving and teamwork skills.
- EPC experience and familiarity with company processes and procedures.
- Materials manufacturing, engineering systems and procurement.
- Knowledge of pipelines, sea lines, welding, NDT and anticorrosion.
- Familiarity with QA/QC and HSE procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially advanced Excel and PowerPoint.
- Understanding of engineering codes and regulations.
- Permanent contract – project based.
