DescriptionProject Context The Painting Manager will be responsible for overseeing all painting and coating works on the NSH oil & gas project in Qatar, including fabrication, erection, commissioning stages, interfacing with EPC/contractor teams, ensuring HSE & quality compliance, schedule adherence, cost control, and client standards. The role typically involves large scale structures, piping, storage tanks, work in refineries/petrochemical or gas facilities.
Key Responsibilities Lead and manage all painting/coating works for the project — including surface preparation (blasting, grinding), primer/coating application, inspection & testing, curing, and final finish. Develop, review and implement painting/coating procedures, ITPs (Inspection & Test Plans), work inspection plans, method statements, QA/QC test plans and ensure client and regulatory compliance. Supervise manpower resources (in-house crews and subcontractors), ensure productivity, manage mobilization/demobilization of teams, coordinate with subcontractor management.
Coordinate closely with construction/fabrication, welding, insulation, scaffolding, blasting and painting teams to ensure interface management (e.g., timing of blasting prior to coating, insulation after painting, etc.). Ensure strict adherence to HSE, environmental, quality assurance & quality control standards in all painting works. Ensure surface preparation, coating application meets relevant standards (e.g., NACE International, Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC), ISO, ASTM).
For example, one job spec mentioned familiarity with international standards such as SSPC, NACE, ISO, ASTM. Monitor and report on painting works progress — schedule, cost, quality (non-conformities, reworks), manpower loading, material consumption, productivity metrics. Manage and ensure availability of painting/coating materials, equipment and consumables (e.g., blasting media, primers, top-coats, brushes, sprayers, masking materials) and ensure they meet specification. Liaise with client, consultant, third-party inspectors, QA/QC department to gain approvals, respond to inspection reports, ensure compliance with punch-list actions, warranty documentation.
Provide technical guidance and support for coating system selection, surface preparation assessment, substrate condition evaluation, and rectify field issues such as adhesion failures, corrosion protection concerns. Ensure continuous improvement, lessons-learned capture, best-practice sharing across painting/coating activities in the project. Manage contract interfaces with painting subcontractors (scope, performance, quality, HSE), track subcontractor performance and ensure obligations are met. Conduct project hand-over of painting scope to client or operations team, ensure warranty requirements, documentation and as-built records are complete.
