The MEP Quantity Surveyor is responsible for managing all cost and contract aspects related to Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing works in construction projects. The role ensures accurate quantity take-off, cost estimation, budgeting, tender evaluation, variation management, and preparation of interim and final payments. The MEP QS will work closely with project, engineering, procurement, and finance teams to ensure cost control and compliance with project requirements and Qatar standards.
Key Responsibilities1. Quantity Take-Off & Cost Estimation
- Prepare detailed and accurate quantity take-offs for all MEP disciplines (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Firefighting, ELV).
- Review design drawings, specifications, and BOQs to ensure material quantities and cost estimates are accurate.
- Prepare initial budgets, cost plans, and tender estimates for MEP works.
- Assist in preparing tender documents for subcontractor packages.
- Evaluate subcontractor quotations and compare technical and commercial compliance.
- Coordinate with procurement to finalize suppliers and subcontractors.
2. Contract Administration
- Review contract terms, scope of work, and technical requirements for MEP packages.
- Prepare and monitor subcontract agreements and contractual correspondence.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and Qatar construction standards.
3. Cost Control & Budget Monitoring
- Track project budgets and monitor actual cost vs budget.
- Prepare cost reports and financial forecasts for management.
- Identify potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering options.
4. Variations & Claims Management
- Identify, prepare, and evaluate variations and change orders.
- Collect supporting documentation and submit claims to consultants/clients.
- Review subcontractor variation claims and negotiate settlements.
5. Payment Certifications
- Prepare monthly payment applications for MEP works.
- Review and certify subcontractor invoices.
- Coordinate with the finance team for timely payment processing.
6. Project Coordination
- Attend site meetings with project teams, consultants, and clients.
- Ensure MEP work progress aligns with measurement and valuation cycles.
- Support project teams with contractual and financial guidance.
- Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an MEP Quantity Surveyor in Qatar or GCC.
- Strong knowledge of MEP systems (HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing, Firefighting, ELV).
- Familiarity with Qatar Construction Specifications (QCS) and local regulations.
- Proficient in AutoCAD, MS Office, and quantity surveying software.
- Excellent cost analysis, negotiation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Experience in building projects (residential, commercial, industrial).
- Knowledge of FIDIC contract conditions.
- Experience with cost management tools (Candy, CostX, or similar).
