Telecom Engineer

Primary Purpose of the Job

Support the Engineering Department to review, update and apply QE standards and QE’s amendments to external standards. Plan and coordinate activities of a multidisciplinary engineering team to provide timely delivery of technical services that meet project requirements. Perform Fiber Optic Link Budget calculations and other related telecommunications calculations, including data and telephony traffic analysis, capacity/bandwidth calculations, public address sound pressure level calculations, telecom equipment power consumption and heat load calculations.

• Identify and utilize relevant engineering standards and codes related to Telecommunication Engineering & Operations.
• Operate and control the installed or virtual Telecommunication system hardware and software.
• Apply Telecommunication infrastructure management tools to automate provisioning, testing, deployment, and monitoring of infrastructure components.
• Assist in producing outline Telecommunication system designs and specifications covering objectives, scope, features, facilities, management, reliability, resilience, security, constraints (such as performance, resources and cost), hardware, network and software environments, main system functions and information flows, traffic volumes, data load and implementation strategies, phasing of development, requirements not met, and alternatives considered.
• Take responsibility for all stages of the life cycle for Telecommunication software/hardware and transmission media development of relatively simple communication systems, including investigation, analysis, specification, design, construction, testing, maintenance, upgrade and migration.

• Degree in a related discipline.
• Relevant discipline certificates.
• Minimum 10 years of similar experience.
• Minimum 15 years overall experience in oil and gas.
