Parsons is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Traffic Engineer to join our dynamic team in Qatar. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in road signs, marking designs, design reviews, temporary traffic management, traffic signal designs, and traffic designs development and review. This role requires a professional who can lead projects, provide technical expertise, and ensure the highest standards of traffic engineering practices.
WhatYou’ll Be Doing
As a Senior Traffic Engineer, you will play a key role in preparing traffic engineering plans and designs required for various infrastructure projects, where you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing traffic control devices, including signs and pavement markings, to ensure safe and efficient transportation systems.
Responsibilities- Develop road sign and marking designs in accordance with local and national standards to ensure clear and effective communication to road users.
- Plan and design Traffic Control Plans (TCPs) and Temporary Traffic Management (TTM) schemes in accordance with the Work Zone Traffic Management Guide (WZTMG) to minimize disruption and ensure traffic safety.
- Design traffic signal systems, including timing plans and coordination, to improve traffic flow and safety at intersections.
- Conduct thorough design reviews to ensure compliance with safety regulations, engineering best practices, and project specifications.
- Review and approve plans, specifications, and estimates prepared by junior engineers.
- Identify potential design issues and provide solutions to mitigate risks.
- Ensure that all designs meet the requirements of the Qatar Traffic Control Manual and all other applicable codes and standards.
- Conduct site assessments to determine the most effective placement and type of road signs and markings.
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and documentation for project approvals, stakeholder meetings, and regulatory submissions.
- Coordinate with local authorities to obtain approval for the design.
- Coordinate with various subject matter experts, such as surveyors and roadway designers to ensure the successful delivery of projects. This involves facilitating collaboration, providing guidance, and integrating their expertise into traffic signal and traffic control plans.
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of related work experience.
- MME registration is preferable.
- Proficiency in drafting software such as AutoCAD, Civil 3D, including 3D modeling, is required.
- Understanding of the application of traffic operations principles (including but not limited to QHDM, QTM, WZTMG and QCS).
- Experience in reviewing third party designs and coordinating comments for approval.
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory and local authority standards.
- Experience in developing traffic signal design plans.
- Exposure to ITS design, traffic operational studies, and intersection conceptual design is required.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplined team environment.
- Prior traffic designs experience working in Qatar is preferable.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and collaborative team player with a commitment to excellence.
- Excellent communication skills for writing reports, preparing presentations, and coordinating with team members and stakeholders.
- Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Detail‑oriented and skilled in problem‑solving, with a commitment to quality and safety in design.
- Excellent report writing skills, preparation of presentations. Must have excellent written and oral communications skills in English.
- Prior experience working in Qatar is preferable.
