Job Overview

The Senior Piping Designer completes a variety of Piping Design assignments as needed and can complete work with a limited degree of supervision. They are an informal resource for colleagues with less Piping Design experience. They developed proficiency in a range of analytical processes or procedures to carry out assigned tasks, provide solutions to problems in atypical or infrequently occurring situations based on existing precedents or procedures, and directly impact the quality of the work of the team.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Develop 3D models and ensure clash‑free compliance with all discipline requirements.
  • Perform design and engineering processes within specified time frames while adhering to maintenance, safety, and quality standards; consider constructability, economics, and operation during Pre‑FEED, FEED, or Detailed Design phases.
  • Work within defined processes and procedures, aiding in determining appropriate approaches for new assignments.
  • Efficiently complete a variety of typical assignments with limited supervision and facilitate the work of others.
  • Set priorities, organize own work, and, when acting as Lead Designer or Area Lead, forecast and plan resource requirements.
  • Lead the design team to complete tasks on schedule and within budget, following standards, company, and project‑specific procedures.
  • Act as the project‑based discipline point of contact in communications and meetings with the Project Team, client, vendors/suppliers, and subcontractors.
  • Ensure the inter‑discipline aspects of design and deliverables are addressed and that communications among disciplines are effective.
  • Coordinate all activities within own discipline and interface with other disciplines.
  • Manage change effectively and resolve 3D model review comments.
  • Familiarize with Project Scope of Work, specifications, schedule, and inter‑discipline requirements; identify and address concerns early.
  • Develop plant design, 3D modelling, drawings, and input into the Plant Layout Narrative per scope of work, man‑hours, and schedule.
  • Assist Lead Piping Engineer/Designer in raising technical queries, preparing piping estimates, and managing job scope changes.
  • Attend kickoff and review meetings, vendor meetings, and other project meetings as lead designer.
  • Monitor and coordinate the design team remotely when required and lead projects in a Multi‑Office Project Execution Environment (MOPEX).
  • Identify scope changes and raise change notifications promptly in the Change Management System.
  • Follow up on corrective actions for issues that arise.
  • Act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience.
  • Ensure all work complies with company requirements, client and statutory codes, standards, and procedures, with particular focus on health and safety policies.
Reports to

Project Lead Piping Engineer and Lead Piping Designer;
Functional:
Department Manager;
Liaises with Designers, Engineers of other disciplines, Group IM, and Document Control.

Supervises

Piping Designer and Associate Piping Designer.

Essential Qualifications and Education
  • High school graduate with a diploma in Mechanical Design, Drafting, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience with a major contractor or consultant, including 4+ years in oil and gas performing Pre‑FEED, FEED, and Detailed Design.
  • Detailed knowledge of 3D CAD systems such as E3D or SP3D.
  • Minimum 1–2 projects experience in E3D and/or S3D.
  • Detailed knowledge of AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with local regulatory environment and international/national industry standards and specifications.
  • General understanding of how process equipment is maintained and operated.
  • Experience with AutoLISP programming, 3D model creation, menu and/or macro compilation is an advantage.
  • Flexible for business travel.
