Job Description

Provide clinically effective, person‑centred, and evidence‑based therapy, assessment and intervention to children at the Hamilton International School.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, screen and evaluate students, sharing results with parents and educational staff and participating in eligibility determination.
  • Provide high‑quality direct speech‑language therapy services according to Individual Education Plans.
  • Conduct assessments, analyse results, and write reports to determine strengths and concerns in speech, voice, fluency, pragmatics, language and oral‑motor skills.
  • Develop SMART, strength‑based, child‑ and family‑centred IEPs and ensure evaluations, IEPs and service delivery align with school guidelines.
  • Assist and guide teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language delays/disorders.
  • Provide consultative services for school staff by sharing and demonstrating techniques and working with teams to facilitate consistent interventions.
  • Communicate and collaborate with parents and the school community to foster individual student success and engage families in the therapy program.
  • Maintain and submit progress reports for all students.
  • Share responsibility for school activities and student supervision with other staff members.
  • Coordinate with the SENCO to ensure alignment with school mission, philosophy and procedures.
  • Keep abreast of best practices in speech and language therapy and contribute productively to the school.
  • Use clinical reasoning skills to analyse and interpret assessment results, set therapy goals and outcome measures.
  • Monitor, evaluate and modify interventions to measure progress and ensure effectiveness.
  • Provide individual or small‑group therapy as required.
  • Collaborate with all team members and families for a coordinated approach.
  • Provide training to school staff and parents.
  • Work closely with the SEN team, including the occupational therapist, to ensure child‑centred provision.
  • Develop and monitor SAL programmes implemented by Special Education Teachers and Learning Assistants; support and supervise.
  • Assess for, advise and order specialist equipment/software, liaising with reporting relationships.
  • Attend school‑arranged meetings (IEP meetings, reviews, parent evenings).
  • Use IT and other alternative communication methods to overcome barriers (simple language, Makaton, symbols, visuals).
  • Manage a clinical caseload and time effectively, prioritising work as required.
  • Complete and maintain accurate treatment records in accordance with professional standards.
  • Write professional reports for review meetings and attend as appropriate.
Qualifications
  • Current licence or qualification as a Speech‑Language Pathologist.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience; preferred experience with oral‑motor skills, childhood development, TEACCH, PECS, ABA/VB strategies.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken and written).
  • Excellent organisational, multitasking and prioritisation skills; punctual and able to work under pressure.
  • Strong customer‑service orientation, critical‑thinking, negotiation, persuasion and motivation skills.
  • Professionalism, safeguarding of children, teamwork and excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management, computer literacy (Word, Excel) and record‑keeping/reporting skills.
  • Empathetic listening, integrity, confidentiality, international mindedness, emotional intelligence and cultural awareness.
  • Flexible, can‑do attitude, passion for quality education, innovation and willingness to embrace change.
