Job Description- Customer service (laboratory test result information, specimen collection information) via phone and direct communication; distributes reports to physicians via mail and fax as necessary.
- Provides courier service for specimens, reports, and supplies as required.
- Communicates with clients regarding specimen problems, report problems, and computer problems that may affect their operation.
- Accurately registers patient demographics into the Hospital Information System.
- Accurately enters test orders into the laboratory information system, verifies sample receipt, inquires results, prints reports, and routes laboratory reports to departments.
- Efficiently processes specimens that were not processed.
- Maintains files for easy retrieval of data, including outreach requisitions, courier logs, and problem logs; assists with problem resolution regarding patient specimens.
- Provides prompt and courteous notification to clients regarding specimen problems, including identification and collection issues.
- Answers and appropriately triages department phone calls; provides efficient and timely courier service including STAT pickups, report and supply delivery; adheres to the courier route as scheduled; records all information on logs consistently and legibly; maintains a safe and clean work environment.
- Fosters department and laboratory teamwork through effective communication; participates in safety and infection control activities.
- Maintains supply stock and processes client supply orders as assigned; promptly notifies management staff of supply shortages.
- Some assignments involve long periods of standing.
- Courier route service involves walking to departments; may be required to properly handle and dispose of hazardous materials; personal protective equipment is provided by the laboratory and is worn in the department due to possible exposure to biohazardous material.
