About the RoleAs Manager Equipment Development
, you will oversee equipment development, product enhancements, tender and project management for onboard equipment and amenities. You will lead both Qatar Airways onboard development and Qatar Executive, working with cross‑functional teams, key stakeholders within the airline, and suppliers to understand product and equipment requirements, provide innovative solutions, and define appropriate scope in line with senior management strategy.
- Lead the development and execution of the product strategy for onboard equipment and amenities, ensuring alignment with overall brand and service goals.
- Explore global markets to identify innovations and trends that enhance customer experience and maintain competitive advantage.
- Collaborate with the Strategy Team to define long‑term equipment development roadmaps, integrating feedback from onboard, ground, sponsorship and other stakeholders.
- Develop and oversee project plans, ensuring best‑practice in the development processes that drive efficiency, creativity and cost‑effectiveness.
- Identify and evaluate suppliers and manufacturers on their technical capabilities to deliver innovative and scalable solutions.
- Define scope and brief documents by synthesizing operational feedback, service requirements, and functional needs from internal stakeholders.
- Partner with the Sponsorship Department to incorporate co‑branded initiatives into equipment and amenity product strategies.
- Support cross‑functional alignment to ensure consistency across all customer touchpoints.
- Manage the end‑to‑end project lifecycle for equipment development, from strategy, concept through design, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
- Lead supplier engagement, including tender processes, clarifications, product evaluations, and final selection.
- Liaise with the design and brand team on the design management process, ensuring proper governance to capture brand standards, operational requirements, and customer expectations.
- Liaise with the design team’s development activities, including mandatory product testing phases with user departments prior to rollout.
- Conduct costing and budget assessments for SKUs, ensuring financial feasibility and value optimisation.
- Ensure a proper process for evaluating existing products for service delivery and design enhancements, identifying opportunities for functional and aesthetic improvements.
- Maintain accountability for final product quality, securing necessary approvals from relevant departments before launch.
- Continuously assess development challenges and implement mitigation strategies to overcome snags and complications.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Head of Department.
- Minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
- 8+ years of job‑related experience.
- Previous work experience in product development & design.
- Practical knowledge of project management tools.
- Experience applying theories related to colour, materials, layout, product engineering, graphics, textiles and visual communication techniques.
- Complete understanding of product design processes, technologies and design theory.
- Excellent knowledge of industry standard design tools for 2D and 3D visualization.
- Passion for experiential design and learning.
