We are looking for a motivated paediatric consultant with a specialist interest in neurology and epilepsy to join our friendly team at Dorset County Hospital.
Job SummaryThis is a permanent, full‑time position of 10 PA’s (8.5 DCC & 1.5 SPA). The role involves inpatient services including neonatal intensive care, acute paediatrics (including ambulatory care) and short‑term intensive care. The post is a 10PA contract, participating in a 1 in 10 week on‑call (Monday‑Friday) with no on‑call nights during this period, and a second on‑call pattern (1:10) covering an additional five days.
You will also manage the paediatric hot phone, provide advice and guidance, run a rapid access clinic and conduct child safeguarding medicals. Outpatient provision primarily on Wednesday‑Friday, with flexibility to shift clinics.
The post holder will provide inpatient and outpatient paediatric services and lead the neurology and epilepsy services.

Person Specification Essential – Education, Qualifications & Training- Full GMC Registration
- Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT (proposed CCT date within 6 months of interview) or CESR/portfolio pathway or European Community Rights
- Advanced Paediatric and Neonatal Resuscitation skills training in last 4 years
- An appropriate higher surgical or medical qualification
- 5 years clinical experience in paediatrics at middle grade level including 6 months in a tertiary neonatal unit or equivalent
- Experience demonstrating potential to cope with demands of a DGH based consultant
- Experience in a special interest that complements existing interests in the department
- Evidence of achieving competencies equivalent to completion of specialist training
- Willingness and ability to fulfil general service elements of the job
- Evidence of clinical skills required to fulfil general and community elements of the job
- Valid Level 3 Safeguarding Training or equivalent
- Evidence of leadership and service development
- Ability to develop effective working relationships and team working
- Evidence of understanding of clinical governance
- Evidence of general management training and skills appropriate for the post
- Knowledge of and direct involvement in audit
- Knowledge and principles of research and evidence of involvement in research
- Evidence of ability to contribute to strategic direction of the Trust
- Knowledge of organisational aspects of the NHS
- Evidence of teaching experience and abilities appropriate to the post
- Ability to communicate effectively
