Bank Worker – Registered Nurse / Registered Children’s Nurse
Job Summary
Our bank is growing and we want to welcome you to our nursing team! If you are a dedicated, caring and compassionate nurse, we want you to work with us. Our Nurse Bank offers flexibility in hours, supporting both you and our patients. This role is based at Dorset County Hospital in Dorchester.
Main duties
- Access, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors and the multidisciplinary team.
- Co‑ordinate patient‑centred care from admission to discharge.
- Maintain accurate patient records using clinical systems.
- Act as patients’ advocate and promote patient empowerment.
- Identify changing patient needs and communicate them to the team.
- Work with multiple teams and clinical areas appropriate to your qualification.
- Access mandatory training and clinical skills.

Person Specification
Essential – Education & Qualifications
- NMC Registered Nurse or NMC Registered Sick Children’s Nurse.
- Evidence of continued professional development.
Essential – Experience
- Minimum of 1 year’s post‑registration experience in an acute setting.
- Understanding of professional nursing issues.
Essential – Skills & Abilities
- Evidence of ability to practice as a competent practitioner.
- Evidence of ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, patients and visitors.
- Evidence of ability to manage time effectively.
- Understanding of clinical governance and risk management.
- Demonstrate an understanding of confidentiality.
Responsibilities
Policy and Service Developments
- Follow Trust policies and procedures, including risk reporting.
- Contribute to the development of the ward/department by attending meetings and supporting change implementation.
- Act as a resource link nurse for the ward.
- Develop yourself and contribute to the development of others.
Financial and Physical Resources
- May be required to handle patients’ valuables and cash.
- Ensure stock levels are maintained.
- Manage resources within allocated budget; take appropriate action when budgets are challenged.
Staff
- Participate in the education and supervision of the ward team, including students.
- Act as team or shift leader.
- Act as a mentor to student nurses and unqualified staff following appropriate training.
- Supervise the ward team in the absence of the ward sister or senior nurse to develop managerial skills.
- Accept the concept of clinical supervision.

Applicants must have current UK professional registration.

Contract & Working Pattern
Bank contract with flexible working hours.
Salary
£31,049 to £37,796 a year pro‑rata per annum.
