Position: Quality Inspector (Permanent)
Contek are working with a client in Dorset who are experts in customising and manufacturing special purpose products to the diverse needs of their customers; whether it be for the for the PCB, Micro-Machining, Dicing or High-Precision industries.

Their products are created and machined to sub-micron tolerances by skilled engineers, supported each step of the way by their quality department, before they are fully assembled, tested and shipped from their UK factory.

Quality Inspector

* ** Night Shift hours:
Mon-Weds 5:00pm-5:00am Thurs 4:00pm-10pm (12 hours per shift, Thurs is 6 hours) Total hours 42 per week (38 hours standard + 4 hours OT)

* Night shift premium is 1.45

As part of the Quality team, the job holder will be involved in helping the company achieve quality and quantity of output through ensuring that products are manufactured and controlled to the highest standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Principal accountabilities

- Daily monitoring of Production or prototype items as required to ensure compliance with specifications using a combination of manual and computer aided measurements.

- To utilize appropriate tools to aid problem definition, data collection and evaluation, root cause analysis and effective corrective/preventive actions.

- Proactively Improving compliance and efficiency

- To assist in the resolution of customer quality issues, ensuring action and resolution in an acceptable timescale.

- To work closely with other departments/suppliers/ Customers when investigating production issues and work to achieve their successful resolution within acceptable timescales

- To develop and deliver relevant training for company quality initiatives e.g. continuous improvement

- Plan and promote use of appropriate measurement and test equipment throughout the factory

- Liaison with supply chain on matters relating to Quality of product

- Identify and drive continuous improvement initiatives towards improving product quality whilst reducing manufacturing costs and reducing lead times

- Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspections of machined components.

- Use precision measuring equipment (micrometers, verniers, CMMs (MCOSMOS)

- Record and maintain accurate inspection results.

- Identify and report non-conformances, raising NCRs where required.

- Report and record scrap parts/issues.

- Assist in preparing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs).

- Support creation of Quality Plans and inspection documents for job packs.

- Program/operate CMMs and vision systems (training provided if needed).

- Collaborate with machinists, engineers, and supervisors to maintain high standards.

• To recognize all accidents, injuries and near-misses that may occur must be recorded in the accident book.

• To take an active role in company initiatives such as continuous improvement, quality initiatives or new manufacturing systems and processes as they are introduced.

• Work together with colleagues in a considerate and respectful manner, following through on commitments made.

Qualifications

• Sound, practical knowledge of manufacturing quality control methodologies, preferably within a high-precision environment.

• IT literacy – competent user of Microsoft Office Packages

• An understanding of Geometric Tolerance application and interpretation of engineering drawings, and machining practice

• Experience of coaching others is desirable

• Good general awareness of computers and associated metrology software…
