Commercial Manager (Construction)
We are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee all post-contract commercial activities within our construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payments, variations, and claims, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, and safeguarding the company’s commercial interests.
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee all post-contract commercial activities within our construction projects. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing payments, variations, and claims, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, and safeguarding the company’s commercial interests.
Key Responsibilities- Manage all commercial aspects of projects after contract award, including payments, variations, and claims.
- Review, certify, and process subcontractor and supplier payments in line with contractual terms.
- Evaluate, negotiate, and finalize variation orders to ensure fair and timely resolution.
- Prepare, assess, and defend claims to protect the company’s financial and contractual position.
- Monitor project budgets, cash flow, and financial forecasts to ensure profitability.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve commercial issues.
- Ensure adherence to contractual obligations, company policies, and regional regulations.
- Provide regular commercial reports to senior management on project performance and risks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 12 years’ experience in commercial management within the construction industry, specifically in the UAE and GCC markets.
- Proven track record working with main contractors on large-scale projects.
- Strong understanding of local laws, regulations, and industry practices in the UAE/GCC.
- Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) preferred.
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts (FIDIC and other standard forms).
- Excellent negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
- Advanced financial and analytical skills.
- Ability to lead commercial teams and mentor junior staff.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office and construction-related software.
