Senior Engineer – Power Cable Procurement and Design

The GPC Engineering Function, Design & Analysis Group, "Risers, Installation Analyses and Umbilical" (RIAU) department is currently looking for a Senior Engineer for the Middle East Project to support Power cable procurement follow‑up, Power cable configuration design and installation analysis.

The successful candidate will also contribute to the development of the discipline through various work on technology development, workstream and/or continuous improvements initiatives.

• Coordinate with a team of Engineers to meet required project constraints on engineering works, optimisation, workload, and schedule.
• Organise regular meetings, maintain action registers, and issue progress reports including document status, resource mobilisation planning, and man‑hour tracking.
• Attend project review meetings, vendor meetings, and engineering meetings organised by other disciplines.
• Organise and support design reviews with Lead and PEM (internally within Subsea 7 and externally with client).
• Provide regular reporting to the engineering manager on MDR/SDR progress and status of key registers (e.g. Supplier TQ, Deviation Request).
• Ensure knowledge transfer within the discipline (e.g. lessons learned).
• Manage the Power cable / Umbilical procurement package.
• Develop the technical scope of work for suppliers based on client needs and specifications.
• Interface with SCM/Supplier to evaluate proposals and support supplier selection through technical bid evaluation.
• Plan, detail and review technical documentation from Subsea 7 and suppliers relating to Power Cable / Umbilical, topside interface, cross‑section design, terminations and ancillary hardware.
• Act as owner of supplier documents; ensure review by relevant disciplines and consolidate comments for discussion with the supplier.
• Identify and manage interface with contractors, client, PEM, package manager, suppliers, SCM, QC, HSE to ensure progress and compliance.
• Ensure selected design/proposal conforms to industry codes, standards and design guides (API, DNV, ISO), client specifications and Subsea 7 internal standards (BMS).
• Follow up on project planning with SCM and QC related to design activities, manufacturing, testing by suppliers; may include on‑site visits.
• Provide engineering assistance during mobilisations, FATs, SITs and pre‑commissioning.
• Train and mentor junior engineers.
• Have a background in cable/umbilical installation analysis.
• Support workstream and continuous‑improvement initiatives such as developing internal tools, guidelines, templates and training material, encouraging knowledge sharing and mentoring trainees.
• When required, adapt to workload and support Oil and Gas SURF Projects / tenders / FEED on cable/umbilical procurement packages.

• Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
• Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in cable/umbilical package management.
• Minimum 3 years of experience on Saudi and Qatar projects.
• Proactive responsibility for delivering design calculations, specifications, procedures, progress reports and 3rd‑party submissions.
• Experience leading small engineering teams.
• Knowledge of installation, on‑bottom stability, routing, crossing, etc.
• Experience working in a multi‑disciplined system engineering team.
• Vendor and third‑party interface skills.
• Experience with Orcaflex in‑place and installation analyses.
• Knowledge of flexible system design.
• Familiarity with subsea controls systems and instrumentation.
• Understanding of cable/umbilical installation methodology and constraints.

• Majority of work is carried out in the regional main office – Dubai.
• Off‑shore / off‑site location during project execution as required.
• Working hours according to local regulation and company policy.
