P&O Maritime Logistics – Corporate Fleet Technical Superintendent
Based at the Corporate Office in Dubai, the Fleet Technical Superintendent is responsible for supporting and managing, in the most cost‑effective and efficient way, the repairs, maintenance, and general upkeep of the P&O Maritime Logistics fleet.
Responsibilities Technical- Main fleet-wide responsibilities include but are not limited to: controlling and managing dockings, special surveys, upgrades, modifications, breakdowns, major accidents/incidents, and projects.
- Supporting technical procurement, insurance matters and P&I claims.
- Providing overall technical support for any of the above activities and ensuring on‑time and on‑budget completion.
- Preparing timely, detailed and accurate project, job or docking specifications in conjunction with regional technical personnel.
- Liaising with Central Procurement to source cost‑effective spare parts and ensuring they are at the work site when required.
- Travelling to vessels or sites to support the above activities as required.
- Managing the activities and involvement of support functions including yard personnel, OEM service engineers, subcontractors and service providers.
- Interacting with regional offices to promote a good working relationship and ensure effective communication and support.
- Liaising with Country Managers and Regional Technical parties regarding any technical issue.
- Interacting with Insurance Brokers and Underwriters in the follow‑up and reporting of all technical claims.
- Significant input into the preparation of project/docking/repair specifications, liaising with Central Procurement to identify and source suitable vendors, services and equipment.
- Negotiating with equipment and material providers, suppliers, vendors, OEMs and other service providers to optimise purchasing costs and ensure technical compatibility.
- Overseeing and contributing to tender documents, establishing costs/budgets/programs and participating in subsequent bid/tender evaluations.
- Providing regular feedback on docking/project costs and schedules, reporting deviations and effectively monitoring and controlling at all times.
- Contributing to the appraisal and selection of repair yards and technical service providers.
- Strictly controlling the technical costs of vessels in line with agreed budgets and reporting deviations to management.
- Supporting and monitoring on‑board Planned Preventive Maintenance to ensure cost‑effective management and effective implementation.
- Assisting in the preparation of individual vessel and fleet annual docking/survey/project/upgrade budgets and the collection of an annual fleet docking/survey plan (approval by Head of Technical).
- Providing written daily project/docking status reports to the SFTS, detailing activities, yard/contractor performance and recording events that may be needed to support cost reductions and claims later.
- Ensuring all relevant information regarding a vessel repair/docking is updated in the NS5 system.
- Preparing reports as directed by STFS or Head of Technical.
- Co‑operating with the Planned Maintenance System team to support implementation and ensure effective use.
- Participating in periodic review and evaluation of the NS5 system to determine effectiveness, identify deficiencies and propose improvements.
- Understanding internal and customer organization, assets, investment strategy, fleet operations and priorities.
- Maintaining high technical knowledge and ensuring personal development through training and self‑development.
- Participating in annual reviews and evaluating projects to determine success and recommending improvements.
- Marine Engineering Class 1 Motor (Class 2 may be considered based on experience) or Engineering/Naval Architecture degree or Master of Engineering Sciences, Mechanics or Electromechanical Engineering or Master of Industrial Sciences, option Electromechanical Engineering.
- Sea experience as chief engineer on offshore support vessels and having held a supervisory shore‑based position for a minimum of 5 years.
