Overview
The role is with a large multinational design and engineering consultancy, working on part of the largest rail network in the GCC/Middle East. The project is at bidding stage; if awarded and if the CV is approved by the client, we expect to start in March 2026.
Responsibilities- Lead the development and delivery of civil engineering designs including earthworks, alignment, drainage, structures, bridges, tunnels (if applicable), retaining walls, and ancillary infrastructure.
- Manage design outputs through all project stages: concept, preliminary, detailed design, and IFC.
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, railway authority standards, local regulations, and international codes.
- Review and approve civil design deliverables prior to submission.
- Coordinate civil designs with track, structures, geotechnical, utilities, architecture, MEP, and rail systems disciplines.
- Manage interfaces between civil design and construction teams to ensure constructability and sequencing.
- Resolve design clashes and interdisciplinary issues using BIM and coordination tools.
- Develop and manage the civil design programme in line with overall project milestones.
- Ensure quality assurance processes are implemented, including design reviews, checks, and approvals.
- Manage design changes, value engineering proposals, and technical deviations.
- Support claims avoidance through robust design documentation and change control.
- Provide technical leadership and guidance to civil engineers and designers.
- Review calculations, reports, drawings, and specifications for accuracy and compliance.
- Ensure lessons learned and best practices are incorporated into the design process.
- Support risk assessments, constructability reviews, and HAZID/HAZOP workshops where applicable.
- Act as the primary civil design interface with the Client, Engineer/PMC, railway authority, and statutory bodies.
- Support technical submissions, approvals, and responses to comments.
- Participate in design workshops, technical meetings, and value engineering reviews.
- Provide engineering support during construction, including responses to RFIs, NCRs, and site queries.
- Review temporary works designs related to civil construction.
- Support as-built documentation and final handover requirements.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
- Master’s degree is an advantage.
- Chartered Engineer (CEng, PE, or equivalent) is preferred.
- More than Ten (10) years’ experience in Civil Engineering/Geotechnical/Flood Protection Infrastructure/Highway/Railway Works. The Manager should have held the same position for at least one project of a similar size and nature.
- Experience on international or mega-projects is highly desirable.
